Beeper Asserts a Fresh Solution for Sending iMessages on Android, Hinging on Ownership or Convenient Access to a Trusted Mac
Beeper claims to have introduced a novel solution enabling Android users to send iMessages. However, this new approach comes with a prerequisite – users must either own or readily access a trusted Mac.
To shed light on how Beeper’s iMessage service functions and the challenges it faces from Apple’s interventions, a portion of Beeper’s explanation was quoted from a message shared on Reddit.
Yet, a forthcoming update to Beeper Cloud on Mac, scheduled for release on Wednesday, introduces a capability where the application can generate what Beeper describes as distinctive registration data.
According to Beeper, this new method of establishing a “1:1 mapping of registration data to individual users” enhances the connection’s reliability in their testing. The same Mac registration data is compatible with Beeper Mini, the Android app that initiated this process. However, Beeper acknowledges the need to “periodically regenerate” the registration data, roughly every week or month, necessitating regular activation of the Mac for refreshing.
Beeper suggests that users with Beeper and a Mac can share registration data, claiming that, based on their testing, 10-20 iMessage users can safely utilize the same registration data. Additionally, Beeper plans to open source both its iMessage bridge and the Mac tool responsible for generating registration data.
While these updates show promise, they notably narrow down the accessibility that originally made Beeper Mini so noteworthy. The initial version of Beeper Mini only required an Android smartphone and a phone number to enable iMessage functionality. However, Apple quickly found a way to disrupt this approach. Beeper’s subsequent attempt involved logging in with an Apple ID, but recent issues have caused the app to encounter problems for many users once again.
Apple has not promptly responded to a request for comment. However, considering Apple’s persistent efforts to thwart Beeper’s capability to send iMessages, it appears probable that Apple will make further attempts to disrupt these functionalities.
